Who Is Crookshanks in Harry Potter?

J. K. Rowling, a British novelist, is the creator of the Harry Potter series, which consists of seven fantasy books. The books tell the story of Harry Potter, a young wizard, as well as his companions Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, who are all students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. All three of the main characters attend Hogwarts. The primary conflict in the novel is Harry’s fight against Lord Voldemort, a powerful evil wizard with the goals of achieving immortality, toppling the wizarding government known as the Ministry of Magic, and enslaving all witches, wizards, and Muggles (non-magical people).

The Three Main Characters from the Harry Potter

Harry Potter: Harry Potter, the only child of James and Lily Potter, was born with magical abilities. It is well known that Lord Voldemort tried to kill him when he was only a baby, but he managed to escape. He is often referred to as “The Boy Who Lived”. Harry spends the first eleven years of his life living with his cruel aunt and uncle, during that time he has no idea that he comes from a wizarding family. On his eleventh birthday, Harry discovers he is a wizard and receives an invitation to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is in Gryffindor house at Hogwarts.

Ron Weasley: At Hogwarts, Ron quickly becomes one of Harry’s best friends. Like his five older brothers Charlie, Bill, Percy, George, and Fred, he has vivid red hair and freckles. Ginny is the name of his younger sister. Ron also goes to Hogwarts and is in Gryffindor house. His pet rat is named Scabbers.

Hermione Granger: Hermione is one of Harry’s best friends, along with Ron Weasley. She also lives in Gryffindor. She is very smart and works hard, so she always gets the best grades on her tests. Her parents are Muggle dentists.

Hermione And Her Pet Cat

Hermione Granger’s pet cat was named Crookshanks. He was half-Kneazle, as shown by the fact that he looked like a lion, could solve problems on his own without help or instruction, and disliked and could spot dishonest people.

Who Is Crookshanks?

Crookshanks

Hermione Granger bought Crookshanks from the Magical Menagerie in the year 1993. She bought him from a saleswoman who told her that he had been in the store for a long time because “no one wanted him”. Crookshanks was brought to Hogwarts by Hermione. Ron’s rat Scabbers immediately offended Crookshanks. This was most likely due to Crookshanks’ ability to discern that Scabbers was really an Animagus in disguise and not a rat.

Crookshanks was said to be very big, have long, skinny legs, be ginger-colored, and have a “squashed head.” Harry Potter said that his appearance resembled that of someone who had “run right into a brick wall.”. Crookshanks’ “bottlebrush” tail and yellow eyes were the other things that made him easy to spot.

Crookshanks sometimes captures and slowly consumes spiders. Gnomes are his favorite prey, and if he gets the opportunity, all the chess pieces on the board will be his next target.

Ron didn’t like Crookshanks very much when Hermione bought him because of how the cat treated his pet rat.

Crookshanks: An Intelligent Cat

Intelligent Cat

Due to the fact that it is a half-kneazle, Hermione Granger’s pet is a very clever and suspicious creature. Because of this, he has shown to be an important friend to her and has on occasion been of great help to her other friends.

He found out Scabbers wasn’t a rat. He was the only one who recognized Ron’s pet rat as the deceptive Peter Pettigrew in his Animagus form. That explains why Crookshanks was continually chasing Scabbers – to keep him away from Harry and his companions. Scabbers’ hidden identity would have probably never been known if it hadn’t been for Crookshanks.

He stole passwords in order to help Sirius. Crookshanks only shown his allegiance to one other pure-blood wizard besides Hermione, and that was Sirius Black. One day during the 1994 academic year, Crookshanks ran across Sirius when they were both on the Hogwarts grounds. To be more specific, he became friends with Padfoot, also known as Snuffles, who turned out to be Sirius disguised as an Animagus. Instantly putting his faith in him, Crookshanks took advantage of Neville Longbottom’s tendency to forget things and stole the password list to Gryffindor Tower. This made it possible for Sirius to pursue Scabbers on his own.

It Was Because Of Him That Neither Harry nor Hermione Were Hurt by The Whomping Willow. When Sirius finally caught Scabber, he actually took Ron and his “adored” pet and pulled them through the tunnel under the Whomping Willow to the Shrieking Shack. Crookshanks then tried to trick Harry and Hermione so that they wouldn’t get hit by the long branches of the Willow. He even told them that they can “freeze” the tree by pressing on a knot in the bark at the base of the tree. Crookshanks not only rescued Hermione and her friends from the branches, but he also guided them safely to the secret path beneath the willow leading to the “haunted” Shrieking Shack.

He Led Everyone Home. Crookshanks is a half-kneazle, which is a creature that is a mix of a cat and a magical creature. But besides being smart and aggressive toward people who don’t believe him, his owner can also count on him to get them out of danger and lead them to safety. Crookshanks helped Hermione and her friends get through the ordeal at the Shrieking Shack and returned them safely to Hogwarts.

He said that Pigwidgeon was not an Animagus. Crookshanks quickly became a favorite of Harry and the Weasleys, especially Ron, who didn’t like him because he hurt Scabbers. Still, he eventually got used to him and even let him sniff Pigwidgeon, the gift owl Sirius sent to Ron, to make sure it wasn’t an Animagus.

Pidwidgeon

He handed out the Firebolt order. Crookshanks was instrumental in Sirius giving Harry his Firebolt. Sirius assigned the cat the responsibility of delivering the broomstick order to the Owl Office.

Second Wizarding War

Hermione and Crookshanks arrived to stay at the Burrow while the Second Wizarding War was at its height, but Hermione eventually fled with Harry and Ron when Death Eaters disrupted Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour’s wedding celebration. Crookshanks remained at the Burrow until the end of the war.

Wrapping Up:

Crookshanks was perhaps the cat that many of us despised when we first saw him. He would torture Scabbers, usually causing a commotion, and was the kind of pet Professor McGonagall would definitely scold at. However, Crookshanks soon became the only one who really understood what was going on with Scabbers.

If Crookshanks hadn’t been around, Scabbers probably would not have been found out, Sirius wouldn’t have been able to get in touch with Harry and offer his assistance in the fight against Voldemort, and Voldemort would have had an easier time attempting to kill Harry if Scabbers had never left Ron’s side.
